An appeal against the decision of the Council of State for the use of Hagia Sophia as a mosque was allegedly lodged by the Turkish presidency. According to the Turkish media, reproducing news from the website Jurnal Türkiye, the Turkish presidency, which is referred to as the “defendant” in the trial for Hagia Sophia in the State Council held in July, appealed the decision to convert Hagia Sophia to a mosque in August while asking to become a museum again!
According to sigmalive.com, in the relevant post on the website, it is mentioned that in a search on the National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP), which is an open-access search system for documents of the Turkish presidency, at the section named “last stage of the file,” it seems that a relevant investigation has been launched by the competent bodies since 19 August.
In a decision announced on July 10, as reported by sigmalive.com, the 10th division of the Council of State annulled the Cabinet’s 1934 decision to convert Hagia Sophia into a museum. Following this decision, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a presidential decree, which provided for the transfer of the Hagia Sophia to the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and the conversion into a mosque.
