As he arrived at Dimokritos airport in Alexandroupolis, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu spoke of a “Turkish” minority in Thrace, thus making his intentions clear.
The Turkish minister departed for Athens to meet tomorrow Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias.
As reported by protothema.gr, the Turkish foreign minister arrived in Alexandroupolis shortly after 10:00 and then traveled to Komotini. However, immediately after the landing, he made a provocative reference to a “Turkish minority” via Twitter.

The large entourage of the head of the Turkish diplomacy traveled to Komotini to visit the Turkish consulate of the city, where Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had talks with the Consul Murat Omeroglu and with the pseudo-muftis of Komotini and Xanthi, İbrahim Şerif and Ahmet Mete.
The pseudo-muftis are the main exponents of Ankara’s policy, along with the Turkish Consulate in Komotini.
Among the issues raised by the pseudo-muftis was the late payment of those who make a living from secret funds of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to state that they are “oppressed” by the Greek authorities, as reported by protothema.gr.
“The work of the Muftis contributes greatly to the preservation and strengthening of the unity and solidarity of the Turkish Minority,” said the Turkish foreign minister in a photograph with Serif and Mete on Twitter.
