Turkey looks on this week’s EU summit as an opportunity to revitalize the Turkey–EU relations, but the EU needs to come up with specific proposals and a timetable for working on a roadmap together, said the spokesperson for Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
“I believe that the EU summit is an opportunity for resetting Turkey–EU relations. A window of opportunity. We can have a restart there. And I see this willingness on the part of many EU Member states,” the spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin told Reuters.
“Work is under way to set a date for the resumption of exploratory talks with Greece,” Kalin said. He added that talks would resume where they left off and focus would be placed not only on continental shelf and sea borders but also on the islands and airspace.
He said that he believed the talks would have a positive impact and would also focus on political consultations and talks between the two sides’ armed forces. “In all three areas, we believe we will make good progress very soon,” he said.
Kalin also said that there was a positive atmosphere during the talks held last week between the Turkish President Erdogan and French President Emanuel Macron while the two leaders agreed to try to find ways to minimize their differences.
