The Church commemorates Martyrs Acepsimas, Joseph, and Aeithalas. We also celebrate the translation of the holy relic of Saint George the Trophy Bearer.
After the consolidation of Christianity in the Roman Empire during the reign of Constantine the Great, the Christians built a majestic church at Lydda in Joppa, Palestine, where they placed the holy relics of St. George. The dedication of the church took place on the same day and since then every year the Orthodox Church celebrates the translation of the holy relics of the Holy Great Martyr George.
The faithful venerate the tomb of St. George, which is located under the holy altar of the Church of Saint George in Lydda, invoking the grace and blessing of God, with the intercession of the Saint George the Trophy Bearer.
When one enters the Church through the Holy Mysteries, humankind is sanctified.
Christians are called to glorify and praise God with their soul and body. That is why the Orthodox Church pays due respect to the human body and does not perform its burning and disappearance.
The matter from which the human body is made is not lost, it does not disappear, although it merges with the soil. Therefore, the Grace of God acts through the relics of holy people, even through their physical objects.
