On Sunday, January 12, 2020, the ceremony of the cutting of the Vasilopita of the Holy Metropolis of Belgium took place at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Archangels in Brussels (Cathedrale orthodoxe Des Saints Archanges Michel et Gabriel Bruxelles).
Before the cutting of the Vasilopita, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg officiated at the Vespers. Bishops Dositheos from the Patriarchate of Georgia, Porphyrios of Neapolis, head of the Representation of the Church of Cyprus to the European Union, and the elected Bishop of Apollonias, Ioakim Archontos, attended the ceremony. The Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, was also present.
At the end of the Vespers, the Metropolitan of Belgium spoke about the special year that has passed and the festivities of the Golden Jubilee of the Holy Metropolis which took place during it, as well as the recent visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Benelux countries.
Metropolitan Athenagoras also thanked all those who helped prepare the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit to the Belgian Cathedral.
At the end of his speech, the Metropolitan proceeded to the ordination of the Hieromonk Philadelphus Kafalis, Director of the Private Metropolitan Bureau, to Archimandrite.
