With great solemnity and the participation of a large number of faithful, the three-day celebration of Saint Spyridon began on the morning of Thursday, 11 December 2025, at the Holy Shrine in Corfu, where the Saint’s incorrupt relic is preserved.
According to long-standing tradition, the opening of the festal period was marked by the Service of Supplication (Paraklesis) to Saint Spyridon, celebrated by Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu. This was followed by the ceremonial removal of the Saint’s holy relic from its reliquary and its placement upright at the entrance of the shrine, in the customary position known as “at the door.”
The liturgical celebrations are being attended by distinguished hierarchs from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, namely Metropolitan Dimitrios of the Princes’ Islands and Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia, who are participating at the invitation of Metropolitan Nektarios.
Throughout the three-day feast, clergy and pilgrims from across Greece and beyond gather in prayer and reverence, honoring Saint Spyridon, the wonderworking protector of Corfu, whose presence continues to inspire faith and devotion among the faithful.
