“Those who question the prerogative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to coordinate the Orthodox Churches affect the unity of the Church”

“Those who question the prerogative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to coordinate the Orthodox Churches affect the unity of the Church”

A group of students from the Institute of Orthodox Theology of the University of Munich visited Metropolitan Amphilochios Kissamos and Selino in Kissamos.

56 persons visited the Orthodox Academy of Crete, of which six were professors, including Professor Konstantinos Nikolakopoulos and Professor Athanasios Vletsis, as well as professors from other universities of Germany, from Faculties of Catholic and Evangelical Theology.

The Institute of Orthodox Theology of the University of Munich is currently on a study trip to the Orthodox Academy of Crete where a seminar is organised regarding the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church held on June 2016 and hosted in the Orthodox Academy of Crete.

Metropolitan Amphilochios spoke about Pan-Orthodox Council convened in Crete.

As he noted, “The Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church, under the supervision of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, is a religious and historical event of high importance in recent centuries.

Non-attendance by local Orthodox Churches, for reasons unrelated to the Holy and Great Council, deprived the Orthodox Church of its historic opportunity to send a message of unity to the whole world, particularly in times when the Orthodox Church in many regions seems to be under persecution.

In accordance with the Holy Canons, the prerogative of coordination of the local Orthodox Churches was granted to the Ecumenical Patriarchate throughout the centuries. Those who question this prerogative affect the unity of the Church,” concluded Metropolitan Amphilochios of Kissamos and Selino.
