The way is opened for the implementation of the project of maintenance, restoration of damages and digitization of part of the historical archive of manuscripts, short films and miniatures of the Patriarchal Institute of Patriarchal Studies and the Holy Royal Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Vlatades.
On the occasion of the discussion of the issue today in the Metropolitan Committee of Thessaloniki, the Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki, Voula Patoulidou, pointed out in her statements that efforts are being made since 2015 for the implementation of the project, however the necessary details have been settled and next week is expected to come to Thessaloniki the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni in order to sign the relevant cooperation agreement between the ministry, the Region and the Monastery.
“In the archive of the Monastery of Vlatades there are rare texts, archives unique in the world, even manuscripts of medicine and botany. A great effort is made not to lose all these files that face the risk of damage due to time. Their digitization will allow their preservation so that the whole world has access to them”, commented Patoulidou.
The Patriarchal Institute of Patriarchal Studies (PIPM) was founded in 1965 by the Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras and is a Theological Scientific Foundation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Through a systematic work of 42 years, owns in the form of microfilms and slides about 96% of the manuscripts of Mount Athos and other Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monasteries as well as Libraries. It is housed in buildings inside the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Vlatades, which belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
