Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided, on 15 March, the Third Sunday of Lent, the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, at the Divine Liturgy in the Most Holy Patriarchal Church of Saint George.
Concelebrating with Ecumenical Patriarch were Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Eirinaios of Myriophyton and Peristasis, Metropolitan Theoliptos of Iconium, Metropolitan Ioakeim of Bursa, Metropolitan Theodoros of Seleucia, and Metropolitan Gregorios of Ankara.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated, according to the established order, by the Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, Archimandrite Bosporios, assisted by the Under-Secretary, Deacon Oikoumenios. The sermon was delivered by the Grand Archdeacon Alexandros.
Among those present in prayer were Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Archons of the Ecumenical Throne, and a large number of faithful from Constantinople and abroad. Among them were numerous groups of students and teachers from various schools who were participating in the 10th International Student Conference on Literature, organised by the Zografeion Lyceum, as well as a group of students and teachers from the school “Breath of Love” (Pnoi Agapis), based in Gjirokastër, which belongs to the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania.
