Following the Divine Liturgy of the Second Sunday of Lent and the Women’s Day celebration, Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and Mozambique distributed roses to the women present at the Metropolitan Cathedral. He then proceeded to the mausoleum of the national poets Solomos and Kalvos, where he led a Trisagion service.
The choir of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, directed by physician and maestro John Souli, performed the national anthem inside the mausoleum, sending a shiver of emotion through all in attendance.
To conclude the series of commemorative events organized in Zambia by UNESCO and the Metropolis, in collaboration with other institutions, for World Greek Language Day, Metropolitan Ioannis announced that a proposal had been submitted to the Greek government to officially recognize February 9 as a day of honor and remembrance for national poet Dionysios Solomos and to promote the Greek language as global cultural heritage.
This recognition will be a significant step toward promoting the Greek language and culture and preserving Greek heritage for future generations.
