Maintenance and restoration work is underway since the beginning of this week at the premises of the Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti”, in Northcote, Victoria. The first works concern the repair of damage found on the roof.
The project includes the restoration of damage that has accumulated due to lack of maintenance in the last decade, and will be performed with respect to the historicity and the special architectural physiognomy of the building.
Its implementation has been undertaken by the architectural office “Andronas Conservation Architecture”, of the award-winning expatriate architect, Arthur Andronas. Andronas’s office has successfully completed many similar projects in Australia’s iconic buildings. Among them is the restoration of the Victoria State Library, a project for which Andronas won three awards last July at the 2020 Victoria Architecture Awards.
One of the above awards was related to the practice that focuses on the preservation of the architectural heritage, a practice that will be applied to the work of restoration of the Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti”.
