On Tuesday, June 23, Archbishop Makarios of Australia received the President of the Cretan Brotherhood of Sydney and New South Wales, Eleftherios Saviolakis, at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese in Sydney.
Mr Saviolakis sought and received the Archbishop’s blessing and thanked him for his ongoing support of the Cretan Brotherhood and its events to mark the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete. Mr Saviolakis also presented the Archbishop with a commemorative anniversary coin dedicated to the historic Battle of Crete in spring 1941, which was issued by the Royal Australian Mint.
In turn, the Archbishop thanked Mr Saviolakis warmly for his visit and kind gesture. He congratulated him on the work carried out by the Cretan Brotherhood of Sydney and New South Wales and concluded by praying that God would bless and strengthen Mr Saviolakis and his colleagues so that they may continue their efforts unhindered in preserving historical memory, Cretan tradition and the identity of Hellenism in Australia.
