On June 27, 2022, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Chapel of the Apostle Mark, at the Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria, on the solemn memory of Saint Cyril III Lucaris, Patriarch of Alexandria (1601-1620) and later Ecumenical Patriarch.
The Patriarch, marching with his mind on the historic cobblestone streets of the Monastery of his repentance, the historic Monastery of Agarathos from where he began his ecclesiastical course as well as the celebrating Saint, praised the figure of the Great Hierarch of the Orthodox Church, who fought like a lion for the preservation of the Orthodox faith in the countries of Ukraine and Poland, fighting against Unia.
The Patriarch referred to the recent decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to inscribe in the Hagiology of the Eastern Orthodox Church the celebrating Holy Hieromartyr Cyril Lukaris (January 11, 2022). Deeply moved, the Primate of the Patriarchate of Alexandria expressed his warm thanks to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church of Alexandria for their decision and thanked Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon for his particularly important contribution to the canonization of Saint Cyril.
