On Monday, December 2, 2024, the newly appointed Greek Consul in Perth, Ms. Eleni Georgopoulou, was officially welcomed to the offices of the Holy Diocese of Perth. The Consul, accompanied by her husband and two children, was warmly received by Bishop Elpidios of Perth on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Also in attendance was Mr. Dimitrios Limnios, who was recently honored with the title of Archon of the Great Church of Christ by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The evening included a formal dinner during which Bishop Elpidios presented two video excerpts. The first showcased a retrospective video produced by “Vima tis Ekklisias” on the Apostolic Visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Australia. The second video, created by the Holy Diocese of Perth, highlighted the centenary celebrations of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Bishop presented the Consul with a commemorative coin of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, minted to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. Additionally, the Consul received a special set of coins issued to mark the centenary of the local Church.
The evening concluded with an exchange of Christmas gifts. Bishop Elpidios extended his warm wishes for a blessed and joyful Christmas to all attendees.
