During this year’s celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint of Amaliada, Saint Athanasios, the Municipality of Ilida and the Holy Metropolis of Ilia welcomed a distinguished guest.
Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico, who traces his origins to two local communities of the municipality, Keramidia and Chavari, was the guest.
Relatively young and falling directly under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Metropolitan met with relatives and conducted memorial services (Trisagions) at the graves of his ancestors in both villages.
Mayor Christos Christodoulopoulos of Ilida expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Metropolitan and his entourage, which included three priests from Guatemala, Venezuela, and Colombia, for making the long journey to participate in the religious events organized by the municipality and the metropolis in honor of the Patron Saint of Amaliada.
Furthermore, Mr. Christodoulopoulos recalled that, in the summer of 2024, the Metropolitan had shown the entire delegation from the Municipality of Ilida warm hospitality in Mexico City during the World Children’s Games in León.
In addition to visiting Chavari and Keramidia, the Metropolitan met with representatives of local institutions, demonstrating his interest in the broader region of Ilia.
