LAST UPDATE 15:35
Second day ot the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece started this morning.
Church-State relations will be at the heart of the Synod’s discussions, while the changes proposed through the constitution revision and the changes of the clergy’s payment regime will be a burning topic.
It is worth noting that the second day of the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod begins in the shadow of the new statements of Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglou on the Greek Clergy Association.
In particular, in an interview with ERT, Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglou said that the Association of Clergy of Greece (ISKE) is not the voice of the Church of Greece.
He referred to previous statements of the ISKE spokesman, saying there are peaceful ways to react, adding that “elections are coming”. The Minister of Education expressed his view that ISKE was not an expression of the Church.
The minister considered the statement to be unfortunate, adding that the hierarchs, although they were unfavourably disposed to the agreement proposed by the government, did not use that language.
