Damaris the Neomartyr
Damaris, born in Athens in the 1st century AD, was the first woman to embrace Christianity after hearing the preaching of the Apostle Paul on Areopagus (Mars Hill). There is not enough information about her life, except that she was a student of Dionysius the Areopagite. She martyred during the persecution of the emperor Domitian (81-96 AD). Her memory is honoured on October 3.
Rusticus and Eleutherius
Saints Rusticus and Eleutherius were born in Athens during the 1st century AD. They were students of Dionysius the Areopagite and martyred during the persecution of the emperor Dometian. Their memory is commemorated every year on October 3.
Athenagoras the apologist
Athenagoras of Athens lived in Athens from 133-190 AD, during the years of the Roman emperors: Marcus Aurlius and Commodus. He was a philosopher and a Christian apologist. Saint Athenagoras stands out from the rest of the modern apologists, thanks to his two surviving works: “Apology or Embassy for the Christians” and “Treatise on the Resurrection.” He is commemorated on July 24.
