“The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy can and must play an even more active role in strengthening the relations of the peoples represented in the institution and unity of Orthodoxy. We believe that it can further enhance its prestige, the range of its interventions,” Maximos Charakopoulos, the head of the Greek Parliamentary Delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, said during his address to the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Constantine Tassoulas, who honoured with his presence the works of the International Secretariat, the presidents and the rapporteurs of the IAO, which are being held in Athens.
Maximos Charakopoulos noted that “Greece, being one of the founding members of this important institution, in terms of the extent of its participation and the content of its work, is hosting these days the works of the International Secretariat, the presidents and the rapporteurs of IAO in Athens, where the heart of Orthodoxy beats.”
Charakopoulos pointed out that “at a time when fewer and fewer people are crossing the threshold of the churches of other Christian doctrines, Orthodoxy is perhaps the only one in the Christian world building new temples. And this is comforting in a Europe at risk of losing its soul, forgetting that Christian values have shaped European culture decisively.”
