The Holy Archdiocese of Australia, with deep human sorrow, announces the repose in the Lord of Oikonomos Alexios Triantafyllou, who fell asleep on Monday, 24 November 2025.
Fr. Alexios was born in 1929 in the village of Rogoi, Kalavryta, in the region of Achaia, Greece, and migrated to Australia in 1956.
He entered the clerical family of the Archdiocese in November 1973, being ordained Deacon at the Church of Christ’s Resurrection in Kogarah, Sydney, and later Priest at the Church of Saint Nektarios in Croydon Park, Adelaide, by the then Auxiliary Bishop of Theoupolis, now Metropolitan of Vryoula, Panteliemon. In October 2010, by the blessing of the late Archbishop of Australia, Stylianos, he was elevated to the rank of Oikonomos by the then Auxiliary Bishop of Apolloniada, now Metropolitan of Sevastia, Seraphim.
For nearly half a century, the late Fr. Alexios served the Orthodox Church in Australia with unwavering dedication. His ministry included service in several parishes: Annunciation of the Theotokos in Mildura (Victoria), Holy Trinity in Surry Hills (Sydney), Saint Dionysios in Central Mangrove (NSW), Saint Nicholas in Marrickville (Sydney), Saint Demetrios in St Marys (Sydney), and Dormition of the Theotokos in Redfern (Sydney). He retired in 2012, yet continued to assist the Church willingly for another decade whenever needed.
Together with his Presvytera, Julia, whom he married in 1956, he had one son, Timotheos Triantafyllou, who followed in his father’s footsteps and now serves at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity of the Holy Metropolis of New Zealand in Fiji.
