Today, Monday, March 2, 2026, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened under the presidency of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for its regular session. After reviewing all the items on the agenda, the Synod took the appropriate decisions.
According to custom, greetings were exchanged at the beginning between the Ecumenical Patriarch and the first-in-rank among the new Synodal Hierarchs, Metropolitan Joseph of Prikonnisos, marking the opening of the new Synodal term.
During the session, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew proposed that Archimandrite Dionysios Anagnostopoulos be elected Bishop of Zenoupolis, serving as Assistant to Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago. Following a regular vote of the Holy and Sacred Synod at the Patriarchal Church, the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Holy Archdiocese of America nominated Archimandrite Dionysios Anagnostopoulos, who was subsequently elected.
The Mikro Minima (Announcement of Election) and the Mega Minima of the newly elected bishop were then delivered, after which he received congratulations from the Ecumenical Patriarch, the hierarchs, and the members of the Patriarchal Court.
