The Holy and Sacred Synod convened on Sunday afternoon, presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The session began with Patriarch Bartholomew providing updates on current matters concerning the life and mission of the Mother Church.
During the meeting, a letter from Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and All Finland was read, detailing the developments following his resignation. According to the letter, the Clergy-Laity Assembly of the Autonomous Church of Finland had convened at Valamo Monastery, where two candidates were proposed for his succession.
The triprosopon was formed and in the unanimous election Metropolitan Ilias of Oulu was elected as the new Archbishop of Helsinki and All Finland by the Holy Synod.
Following the election, the newly elected Archbishop was formally proclaimed through the Mikro Minima and Mega Minima announcements. He subsequently received the heartfelt congratulations and blessings of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Synod members, who wished him a fruitful and blessed hierarchical ministry in the Church.
