By decision of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, which shows the undivided love and respect of both him and the country to the Patriarchate of Alexandria and to his Prelate, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, the Patriarchate acquires its own space to build a church and to preach Orthodoxy, in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt, the newest capital of the world.
Sealing this great event that symbolizes the gift of Egypt to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, visited on Thursday, August 26, 2021, the site of the new administrative capital of Egypt, where he was warmly welcomed by Egyptian officials and the military authorities. The Primate of the Church of Alexandria and of all Africa was guided to all areas of the New Administrative Capital and was informed about the progress of the works, emphasizing how much progress is being made day by day, under the wise leadership of President Al Sisi.
It is noteworthy that the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, donated to the Patriarchate of Alexandria a large area corresponding to 6,000 square meters in the New, under construction, administrative capital of Egypt, to be erected and housed, the new administration of the Patriarchate in Cairo, which will be the center of Orthodoxy in Egypt and throughout Africa.
For this great decision of Egypt and President of Al Sisi, the Patriarch of Alexandria expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian leader for this donation and thanked him for always standing, helping, and supporting the work of the Patriarchate. He also stressed that the new center of the Patriarchate in Cairo will be a multicultural space that will embrace all people, regardless of their religious beliefs and nationalities, for the benefit of humanity and peace in the world.
“We want to unite the peoples, especially today when fanaticism and division threaten the course of the world,” said the Primate of the Alexandrian Church, Theodore II.
The reconstruction of the Center of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in this area will give the opportunity to the ancient church of Alexandria, but with always modern approaches to new problems, to transmit its universal message, from the center of Orthodoxy to Africa, which is expected to play an important role in the global developments of the 21st century.
“This new center of Orthodoxy in the New Administrative Capital will also be the beacon for the missionary work of the patriarchate on our long-suffering continent,” said the Patriarch of Alexandria.
And as Patriarch Theodore II pointed out, “this donation demonstrates in practice the appreciation of the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to the Patriarchate of Alexandria and consequently to the Hellenism of Egypt and the indestructible ties of Hellenism with the Egyptian people.
Finally, the Patriarch expressed his warm gratitude to the Patriarchal Commissioner of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodemos of Memphis for his tireless efforts and his excellent cooperation with the competent Egyptian authorities in order to proceed immediately with the implementation of the entire project and the donation of Egypt to the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All of Africa.
The new capital is expected to house 6.5 million people in the area between the Nile River and the Suez Canal, east of Cairo.
It is temporarily called the New Administrative Capital and will be the largest, most luxurious, modern, and newest capital in the world.
