Extensive reference to the delinquent behavior of Turkey against our country was made during the first reading in the Plenary Session of the Federal Parliament of Germany (Bundestag) of the proposals of two resolutions of the Greens and the socialist party, Die Linke, on the revocation of the export license and cessation of German arms systems exports to Turkey.
Specifically, according to diplomatic sources, during the discussion held on January 29, the rapporteur of the Greens Katja Keul made direct reference to the doctrine of the “Blue Homeland”, but also to the hundreds of violations of Greek airspace by Turkish warplanes.
The Green MP, Manuel Sarazzin, in charge of foreign affairs, also stated at the same meeting that the implementation of the export of German submarines to Turkey will change the balance of power to the detriment of Greece and Cyprus, and will lead to new armaments race.
Die Linke’s rapporteur Sevim Dagdelen, for her part, referred to the activities of Turkish research vessels in the Eastern Mediterranean, while not failing to refer to illegal activities in Cyprus (“opening” of Varosha), the sources stressed.
Unlike in the past, when criticism of Turkey focused heavily on issues related to the situation inside the country (human rights violations, imprisonment of dissidents, Kurdish issue), Turkish actions in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the wider region (Libya, Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh) are now also at the center of criticism, as diplomatic sources emphasize.
Klaus-Peter Willisch, spokesman of the ruling CDU / CSU party, also acknowledged that if the decision to approve the submarine’s export license was given today, it would be different, acknowledging, indirectly but clearly, that Turkish behavior had changed radically in the last decade.
It is recalled that during his last visit to Berlin last November, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias had met officials of the Geens, including Sarazin, as well as members of the Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs, including Dagdelen. In these contacts he had raised, among other things, this issue.
