At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the Funeral Service of the Holy Sepulchre Archimandrite Sergios Tsoukalas was held at the Holy Monastery of Saint George Epanosifis of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete. Fr Sergios had departed unto the Lord during the morning hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Our brother Archimandrite Sergios, who has departed unto the Lord in the hope of eternal life, resided during his final years at the aforementioned Holy Monastery of Saint George Epanosifis through the excellent cooperation of the Jerusalem Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Crete. There, he received the devoted care of the Fathers of the Monastery, who attended to his medical needs and facilitated his treatment at the hospitals of Heraklion. He likewise benefited from the support and assistance of his brother’s family, Mr Konstantinos Tsoukalas.
During his final days, he was hospitalised at the Heraklion University General Hospital (PAGNI). Owing to complications arising from diabetes, he underwent the amputation of his leg and subsequently reposed in the Lord on the morning of Saturday, 7/20 June 2026.
The Funeral Service was presided over by Archbishop Eugenios of Crete, concelebrating with the Hegumen of the Monastery of Saint George Epanosifis, Archimandrite Dionysios, together with Archimandrite Hieronymos, Patriarchal Exarch in Athens and representative of the Patriarch of Jerusalem.
Participating in the Funeral Service were the Fathers of Epanosifis, other clergy of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete, relatives of the departed, and faithful from the city of Heraklion, from which the late Archimandrite originated.
The Jerusalem Patriarchate expresses its sincere gratitude to the Archdiocese of Crete and to the Holy Monastery of Saint George Epanosifis for their care and support.
May his memory be eternal!
