The feast of Saint Barbara, the great martyr, was celebrated at the Holy Metropolis of Belgium in the celebrating parishes of the saint.
On the afternoon of Friday, December 3, 2021, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, presided over the Vespers in the Parish of Liege. In his sermon, the Metropolitan referred to the life of the saint and its meaning for the faithful today, while at the end he thanked the Hierarchical Head of the Parish for the pastoral work he performs in the Parish and the priests who came to honor St. Barbara.
The next day, December 4, 2021, the Metropolitan performed the Divine Liturgy in the Parish of St. Barbara in Genk, with the participation of the priests of the Limburg area. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan thanked the clergy for their participation in the feast and congratulated the Hierarchical Head of the Parish for the pastoral work as well as for the beautification works of the church that took place in recent years.
The day after the feast of St. Barbara, Sunday, December 5, 2021, the Metropolitan performed the Divine Liturgy in the Parish of St. Barbara in Charleroi. In his sermon he referred to the Gospel reading, analyzing the phenomenon of hypocrisy that exists within the people of the church and calling on the faithful to have a genuine ecclesiastical mind. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, he thanked the Hierarchical Head of the Parish for the pastoral work he performs as well as the officers present from SHAPE, who, led by Brigadier General Symeon-Charalambos Psimoulis, came to celebrate the feast of St. Barbara.
