The exhibition, organized by the Municipality of Heraklion at the Basilica of Saint Mark, entitled “Reflections of Antiquity in the Work of Doménikos Theotokópoulos (El Greco),” was completed yesterday Sunday, October 6.
Thousands of visitors, Greeks and foreigners, visited the Exhibition, featuring high-resolution digital reproductions of works by Doménikos Theotokópoulos, which were given by top European and American Museums (Toledo, Madrid, Vatican City, New York, Rome, Florence, Oxford, etc) on the occasion, as well as dozens of schools from all over Crete who had guided tours through the Exhibition.
The Mayor of Heraklion, Vassilis Lambrinos, thanked all the participants of the Exhibition, the competent services of the Municipality of Heraklion and the thousands of visitors for their response. He then promised that “the Municipality will make every effort to reopen the Exhibition in the near future” for those who did not manage to visit it. “For us, culture remains a key political priority. And that’s why we will continue to offer high-quality events throughout the year to both residents and visitors.”
