On Thursday, an official meeting took place at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople between Professor Christo Pimpirev, Dragomir Mateev, and Kiril Kantilarov from the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI) and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, said Professor Pimpirev, president of the BAI and head of the Bulgarian Antarctic missions.
“The meeting was warm and informal. The Ecumenical Patriarch showed great interest in Bulgaria’s activities in Antarctica, and Archimandrite Charalampos also attended,” Professor Pimpirev stated. He blessed the upcoming 34th National Antarctic Expedition and presented an icon of Saint Demetrius for the Bulgarian Chapel of Saint John of Rila on the frozen continent,” said Professor Pimpirev.
