The Ecumenical Patriarch arrived in Ioannina

The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived on Sunday, July 10, 2022, late in the day, at the “King Pyrros” airport of Ioannina, where he was received by Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina.

The Ecumenical Patriarch is visiting Ioannina, following the kind invitation of Metropolitan Maximos and the local authorities, to preside over the inauguration ceremony and the first Divine Liturgy in the newly built Holy Church of St. Paisios.

During his four-day visit, the Ecumenical Patriarch is going to visit Holy Monasteries and Institutions of the Metropolis of Ioannina, to have meetings with the District Governor of Epirus, Mr. Alexandros Kachrimanis and the Mayor of Ioannina, Mr. Moses Elisaf, and he is going to be proclaimed an honorary citizen of Ioannina, as well as an honorary professor of the Faculties of the University of Ioannina.

The Patriarchal Escort is composed of Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, Metropolitan Joachim of Bursa, Metropolitan Platon of Lagadas, Liti and Redini, Archimandrite Grigorios, Deacon Vosporios, Vice-Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, Mr. Nicholas-Georgios Papachristou, Director of the Patriarchal Press and Communication Office, and Mr. Petros Bazgarlo, Secretary of the Patriarchate.

Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, who earlier had accompanied the Ecumenical Patriarch to the Airport of Constantinople along with the Grand Ecclesiarch and Director of the Patriarchal Office Aetios, has been appointed as the Patriarch’s Commissioner.
