On Tuesday afternoon, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria arrived on the island of Imbros for the anniversary celebrations to be held in the coming days in honour of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
The two primates were warmly welcomed at the port of Imbros by Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, along with local clergy and officials.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria arrived at Istanbul Airport, where he was received by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. After a cordial meeting, the two primates departed by road for Imbros.
The Patriarch of Bulgaria’s presence on Imbros coincides with the 35th anniversary of his patriarchal ministry and the 65th anniversary of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s ordination as a deacon — milestones being honoured with a series of events and a concelebration.
This meeting is part of the ongoing contact between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Primate of the Orthodox Churches. The joint presence of the two Patriarchs on Imbros has particular symbolic significance for the life and work of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
The visit is expected to continue with ecclesiastical events and a concelebration on Imbros.
