The Church today commemorates the Holy 165 Fathers of the Fifth Ecumenical Council. This Council was convoked by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in Constantinople in 535. It condemned the monophysitism and refuted the doctrines of Origen, which divided the Christians.
We also celebrate the memory of the Righteous Olympias the Deaconess, of Constantinople, who, after the death of her husband, dedicated herself to the social work of the Church and supported the Archbishop of Constantinople, St. Ioannis Chrysostomos. She became the heir to great wealth, which she began to distribute to all the needy, the poor, the orphaned and the widowed, and remained committed to her mission until her death.
Today, we celebrate solemnly the Dormition of the Righteous Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos. Saint Anna, wife of Joachim, who was sterile, gave birth to the Virgin Mary, whom she dedicated to the Lord, at the age of 3. Then Saint Anna spent the rest of her life with prayer and fasting. She reposed to the Lord at the age of 70. She became benefactor of humankind, by giving birth to Miriam, the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
