Patriarch John of Antioch and All the East welcomed the Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Tarek Mitri, and Dr. Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, Director of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Department of Arab Affairs, to the Patriarchal Residence in Damascus.
The Patriarch and the Deputy Prime Minister held a comprehensive discussion addressing current developments and the overall situation in Syria and Lebanon. Dr. Mitri expressed his appreciation for Patriarch John’s positions and for the historical and spiritual role of the Patriarchal Residence of Damascus, as embodied by its successive patriarchs throughout the ages.
In turn, the Patriarch expressed his warm welcome and esteem for Dr. Mitri and his delegation, emphasizing the crucial role of the Lebanese government during this pivotal moment in Lebanese and Middle Eastern history.
