On Wednesday, May 27, Metropolitan Polykarpos of Italy and Exarch of Southern Europe welcomed Mr Giannis Loverdos, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, to the headquarters of the Holy Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy and the historic Church of Saint George of the Greeks in Venice.
The meeting was held to mark the presentation of the digitisation programme for the Historical Archive of the Historic Community of Greek Orthodox Christians in Venice, which took place at the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies.
The meeting emphasised the importance of preserving, promoting and transmitting the historical, ecclesiastical and cultural heritage of Orthodox Hellenism in Venice, which bears witness to the Greek Orthodox presence in Italy throughout the centuries.
