A delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate led by Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon has gone to the Vatican to take part in the Thronal Feast of the Church of Rome, in memory of its founder, the Apostle Peter.
The Delegation was received today, Monday 28 June 2021, by Pope Francis, who said characteristically:
“Dear brothers and sisters, is it not time to give further impetus to our journey through the Spirit to dispel old prejudices and to overcome harmful adversities once and for all?”
The pope also said he looked forward to closer co-operation between Orthodox and Catholics in dialogue with other religious traditions.
Finally, Pope Francis sent his warm greetings to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, saying: “I feel like He is my true brother. I look forward to seeing Him here in Rome next October, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his election.”
