The conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is also found in the Erdogan government’s post-election agenda, as the spokesman for the Justice and Development Party, Omer Chelik, told the foreign press correspondents in Turkey.
Responding to a SIGMA TV question about whether President Erdogan’s pre-election commitment regarding Hagia Sophia will be implemented, Omer Chelik said: “For Hagia Sophia we are already working on a system that will allow free access, as in all mosques. Because, as you know, we had to pay an entrance fee in Hagia Sophia and there were always -naturally- objections to this issue in Turkey,” he said.
