With the contributions of faithful Orthodox believers—many giving from their modest means—the construction of the Church of St. Marina and St. Catherine in the city of Roskovec, Fier, is progressing despite financial challenges.
Metropolitan Nicholas of Apollonia and Fier remains steadfast in his faith, recalling the words of the late Archbishop Anastasios: “God will not abandon us!” The foundation stone was laid on January 21, 2025, and the Orthodox community is making every effort to see the project through to completion.
A statement from the Metropolis of Apollonia and Fier emphasizes the importance of collective support:
“We cannot build this Church without the support of all.”
The announcement also acknowledges the significant financial difficulties hindering the project’s completion, exacerbated by the passing of Archbishop Anastasios, who had been a constant spiritual and financial pillar in all their efforts.
“We hope, with God’s help and your support, to complete this spiritual and historical work. We humbly ask for your help, your contribution, and your offering—according to your ability. Every ‘stone’ you place is valuable for the building of this Church,” the statement urges.
For 33 years, late Archbishop Anastasios worked tirelessly to restore and build hundreds of churches in Albania, often facing great struggles to secure funding. His legacy of faith and perseverance now serves as an inspiration to those working to complete this sacred project.
