The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus accepted the resignation of Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Kition from his position.
In particular, at the Second Regular Session of the Holy Synod, the Church of Cyprus accepted the Metropolitan’s resignation which was submitted for his powers are getting weaker as he said, and he wants to give a chance to someone younger to take up his duties.
Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus congratulated the Metropolitan for his action and thanked him for his many years of offering to the Church. The resignation was also accepted by the remaining members of the Synod.
Also, the Synod decided to honour him with the gold medal of Apostle Barnabas at a forthcoming event. The See of the Metropolis becomes Vacant from today, and Archbishop Chrysostomos has been named Locum Tenens of the Metropolis.
The Holy Synod also addressed the issue of the preservation of the monuments and temples in the free areas of Cyprus and expressed its regret at the lack of interest shown by the Department of Antiquities in these cases.
It has also been decided to set up a special Emergency Committee.
