The Holy Archdiocese of Australia announces that, following a decision of the Greek Government, the General Consulates of Greece in Sydney and Melbourne will be reinforced with additional staff, aiming to improve the services provided to the Greek diaspora in the Fifth Continent.
This development comes in response to coordinated efforts made in recent months by the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, and personally by Archbishop Makarios, as well as by the Ambassador of Greece, Stavros Venizelos, and Greek community organizations, with the goal of strengthening ties with Greece and promoting cooperation between the two countries.
The Greek diaspora of Australia, as a significant part of local society, receives through this decision a clear message of practical recognition from the Greek State. According to ecclesiastical and community sources, the reinforcement of the Consulates marks an important step toward addressing long-standing issues concerning services for Greeks abroad.
The Archdiocese of Australia expresses its appreciation to the Greek Government for this initiative and notes that further actions are expected to address long-standing requests of the diaspora, such as the matter of double taxation, with the aim of supporting the presence, progress, and prosperity of Hellenism in the Antipodes.
