Archbishop Makarios of Australia is making a pastoral visit to Perth, where he will celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Christ with the faithful of Western Australia.
He arrived on Tuesday evening, December 23, accompanied by Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint George in Yellow Rock. He was warmly welcomed by the clergy and faithful of the Perth Diocese, led by Bishop Elpidios.
On Wednesday, December 24, the Archbishop visited the Consulate of Greece in Perth and held a cordial meeting with Consul Eleni Georgopoulou. Bishop Elpidios of Perth also attended the meeting, during which issues of mutual interest were discussed, with particular emphasis on the needs of the Greek community in Western Australia. Both parties expressed a commitment to continuing the fruitful cooperation between the Orthodox Church and the Consular Authority, which represents the Greek state.
On the great feast of the Nativity of the God-Man, Archbishop Makarios will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Nektarios in Dianella, a suburb of Perth. There, he will also ordain Ioan Ancuta as a deacon.
