Archbishop Makarios of Australia participated and represented the Orthodox Hellenism of the fifth continent on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the National Commemoration Ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II, which took place in the Australian capital, as part of the National Day of Mourning for the loss of the former Commonwealth monarch.
The ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the Federal Parliament in Canberra, in the presence of the Governor-General of Australia, Mr. David Hurley, the Federal Prime Minister, Mr. Anthony Albanese, and other high-ranking officials of the country.
Archbishop Makarios, who was accompanied by the Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, Archimandrite Christophoros Krikelis of the Ecumenical Throne, and Deacon Meliton Haridemos, met and spoke with expatriate members of parliament, ministers and ambassadors during the ceremony.
