The Consul General of America in Thessaloniki, Gregory W. Pfleger, Jr., had a conversation for about an hour with Metropolitan Stephanos of Philippi, Neapolis and Thassos, in the Bishopric of Kavala.
The Consul was accompanied by Ioanna Koutsounanou, the Public Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Consulate General.
There was an in-depth discussion on issues that concern and interest Greece and Macedonia, with particular reference to the historical and religious identity of the region and to the value of religious tourism and the visibility of the ancient Macedonian city of Philippi, the Baptistery of Saint Lydia and the Monument of the arrival of Paul, Apostle to the Nations, at ancient Neapolis.
The briefing of the Consul was useful and helped him to form a personal opinion on these issues.
“The whole discussion, the process, and the offering of gifts and souvenirs to the Consul General of America, is a special event for our city and our local Church,” the Metropolis said.
