Seven victims of the attack in Vienna are in critical condition and their lives are in danger, the Austrian news agency APA reported today, citing a health services spokesperson.
A total of 17 victims of the attack are being treated, mostly with bullet wounds and cuts, the spokeswoman said. The ten people with minor injuries are in shock, he added.
Another victim of yesterday’s attack in Vienna died of serious injuries, the Austria Press Agency reported today, a fact that increases the death toll to four citizens and one assailant.
Vienna police said on Twitter that there were many suspects and that attacks had taken place in six different places, all very close to the street where the main synagogue is located.
A large part of central Vienna was cordoned off and strong police forces were deployed in the area.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer told ORF TV station that “many people” were believed to be involved in the attack. “Right now I can confirm that we believe this is obviously a terrorist attack. We believe that there are many perpetrators. Unfortunately, there are also many injured, most likely dead,” he added.
An ambulance services spokesperson spoke of a dead body. According to the Austrian agency APA, one of the suspects and a passer-by were killed in shooting, while among the injured is a police officer. APA mentioned 15 injured. Earlier, another source said one of the perpetrators committed suicide attacks.
