Reports that the Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphaniy, is expected to visit Mount Athos have caused reactions and tension within the monastic community.
According to information cited by the newspaper Kathimerini, Metropolitan Epiphaniy is expected to arrive at the “Garden of the Virgin Mary” in the coming days.
(Several) Monasteries under Russian influence are reportedly opposing the visit and are preparing to boycott the event, as they plan not to attend the official reception.
