The Sunday of Orthodoxy was marked by the celebration of the Synodal Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Tasoulas.
The sacred service was presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, concelebrating with the members of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.
Specifically, participating in the Synodal Divine Liturgy were the Metropolitans: Nikolaos of Mesogaia, Chrysostomos of Patras, Symeon of Nea Smyrni, Nektarios of Corfu, Dorotheos of Drama, Serapion of Paramythia, Kallinikos of Kastoria, Bartholomew of Kilkis, and Eireneos of Florina.
Also in attendance were the Greek Minister of Education, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki; Mr. Pavlos Christidis representing the socialist party PASOK; representatives of the Regional Governor of Attica and of the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Haris Doukas; as well as the ambassadors of Cyprus, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, Ukraine, Lebanon, Moldova, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria.
In accordance with ecclesiastical tradition, the President of the Republic recited the “Creed” (“I Believe”) during the Divine Liturgy.
On the occasion of the celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, the President of the Republic later hosted a luncheon at the Presidential Mansion in honor of Archbishop Ieronymos and the members of the Permanent Holy Synod.
