A Hierarchical Meeting of the Clergy of Sydney was held at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, graced by the participation of Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos and his entourage. Also in attendance were Bishops Iakovos of Militoupolis and Christodoulos of Magnesia, along with the Chief Secretary of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Holy Archdiocese.
Archbishop Makarios of Australia opened the meeting by extending heartfelt thanks to all clergy for their indispensable contributions to the meticulous preparation and successful execution of the recent celebrations in Sydney during the blessed visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
On the occasion of the feast of Saint Spyridon, Bishop of Trimythous—renowned for his participation in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, where the foundational tenets of Christian doctrine were articulated—Archbishop Makarios delivered a poignant address. He emphasized the significance of the Orthodox Church’s synodal conscience and the enduring value of its collective expression in safeguarding the faith.
The meeting concluded with discussions on current administrative and practical matters, during which Archbishop Makarios provided clear instructions. Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos also delivered a brief address, expressing his spiritual joy at engaging with the clergy and faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. He commended everyone for their exceptional hospitality and the grand reception given to the Ecumenical Patriarch during his visit. Reflecting on the Patriarchal Divine Liturgies, which were broadcast online, Metropolitan Prodromos noted that he too shared in the joy of the local Church from afar.
