Dionysios Solomos wrote the famous “Hymn to Liberty” in 1823 when the Greek Revolution was at a critical stage. In its 158 verses, the poem refers to events of the war up to that point.
The “Hymn to Liberty” was set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros and in 1865 its first two verses were the Greek National Anthem.
On Thursday, March 25, 2021, in a symphony concert organized by the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales, the first presentation of the entire project will take place in Australia. The “Hymn to Liberty” will be presented by an orchestra of thirty artists, musical under the musical direction of George Ellis, along with Maria Yiakoulis, Tania Nassibian, George Karantonis, and Leon Vitogiannis.
