Archbishop of Australia celebrated his name day while he performed the ordination of Bishop Silouan of Sinope at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney.
In his speech, the Archbishop emphasized that “for the bishops, a pivotal and vital point in our spiritual course, is to completely forget ourselves. When we love only ourselves, we cannot let our neighbor into our lives.”
Addressing the new bishop, the Archbishop called him to become “Bishop of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, within the Hierarchy of the first-ranking Great Church of Christ of Constantinople.”
Finally, he gave his assurance of the successful shepherding of the new bishop, saying: “I have no doubt you will succeed. I am confident that you will honor our Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.”
On his part, the new bishop expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate for his election.
At the ordination ceremony, the Archbishop was accompanied by Bishops Seraphim of Sebasteia, Ezekiel of Dervi, Iakovos of Miletoupolis, Aimilianos of Meloe, and Elpidios of Kyanea, along with many clergymen. Metropolitans Amvrosios of Korea, Nektarios of Hong Kong, Konstantinos of Singapore, Myron of New Zealand, Ignatios of Magadascar, and Nathaniel of Chicago, who traveled to Australia to celebrate the name day of Archbishop of Australia.
