Students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Trento visited the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saint Mark the Evangelist” in the city on Monday.
According to the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, third- and fourth-year law students attended the visit as part of a Comparative Ecclesiastical Law course.
Parish priest Ioan Lupășteanu presented the church and explained the role the parish plays for the Romanian diaspora in the area.
Fr George Grigoriță, a patriarchal adviser, spoke to the students about Orthodoxy, focusing on the history and structure of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
The future jurists learned how the norms of the Orthodox Church interact with national identity and the international legal framework.
In the second part of the meeting, students—accompanied by Francesca Oliosi, professor of Ecclesiastical Law at the University of Trento—took part in a question-and-answer session on topics including the specifics of Orthodox canonical theology, the Orthodox model of Church–State relations in Europe, and the legal challenges faced by religious minorities.
