On Friday, September 12, a solemn Doxology was celebrated at the Church of Saint Spyridon in Kingsford, Sydney, marking the graduation of Year 12 students of St. Spyridon’s Greek Orthodox College. With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the service was led by Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia, joined by the Parish Priest, Fr. Stylianos Skoutas, and Assistant Priest, Fr. Stavros Ivanos.
In attendance, alongside the graduating students, were the College Principal, Mrs. Emilia Katsogiannis, members of the teaching staff, Parish President Mr. Elias Oikonomou, members of the Parish Council, and relatives of the graduates who came to offer prayers with the young men and women.
At the conclusion of the service, a message from Archbishop Makarios was read, in which he expressed his joy at the achievements of the graduates, praising their dedication, perseverance, and growth in both faith and wisdom. He emphasized their formation in the Orthodox faith and Greek heritage—values that inspire love, faith, dignity, respect, humility, and honor.
Referring to the teaching of Saint Nicholas Cabasilas, the 14th-century Byzantine theologian, the Archbishop encouraged the graduates to keep Christ at the center of their lives, reminding them that true purpose and fulfillment can only be found in Jesus Christ. He cited Cabasilas’ words that life in Christ does not require extraordinary achievements, but rather the disposition to make the Lord the source of one’s life, regardless of profession or vocation.
The Archbishop further inspired the graduates with the words of the Apostle Paul: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13), assuring them that when Christ remains at the center of their lives, every accomplishment and challenge is illuminated by His grace and strength.
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the staff and leadership of the College, acknowledging their efforts in fostering an environment of academic excellence deeply rooted in Orthodox faith and Hellenic culture.
