With a festive Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Resurrection Cathedral in Korçë, Anastasios celebrated his name day on January 22, 2026, the feast of Saint Anastasios the Persian, for the first time since his election as Metropolitan.
Metropolitan Anastasios presided at Orthros and officiated at the Divine Liturgy, surrounded by the clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Korçë. The celebration carried special emotional significance, as he had been the last auxiliary bishop ordained by the late Anastasios of Albania, of blessed memory.
Toward the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service was held for the late Archbishop Anastasios, who also celebrated his name day on the same date. The moment offered an opportunity for prayerful remembrance and gratitude for his enduring spiritual legacy and contribution to the revival of the Orthodox Church in Albania.
Following the service, Metropolitan Anastasios received name-day wishes at the Bishop’s Residence from local political and municipal representatives, as well as from numerous faithful who gathered to express their respect and affection.
On this occasion, the previous day, the Abbot of Esphigmenou Monastery, Bartholomew, together with fathers from Mount Athos, took part in the festive Great Vespers and the Divine Liturgy.
In his address during the Great Vespers, Archimandrite Bartholomew emphasized that the spiritual struggle is not confined within the walls of the church, but is reflected in the way people live, speak, and offer help to their neighbor in everyday life. He noted that the Gospel functions as a kind of “user manual” for human existence, guiding people toward meaningful communication and a life filled with purpose.
He further stressed that the newly enthroned Metropolitan of Korçë, Anastasios, assumes a responsibility of profound historical significance. In a region marked by deep wounds and difficult memories, he is called to become a source of support and a spiritual shelter for a flock seeking security and hope.
