On November 18, 2024, President Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia hosted a meeting at his official residence in Belgrade with Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate. The visit of the Russian Church delegation was made with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
Metropolitan Anthony conveyed greetings from Patriarch Kirill to the Serbian President, highlighting that the delegation’s visit marked the centennial celebrations of the Holy Trinity Church in Belgrade, the Moscow Patriarchate’s representation in Serbia.
During their conversation, President Vučić emphasized the significance of this milestone, celebrated the previous day with the participation of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, hierarchs, and clergy from both the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches. He remarked that the event symbolized the centuries-long close relationship between the two nations and their Churches, reaffirming their shared commitment to preserving spiritual values and cultural heritage.
The meeting also included discussions on other topics of mutual interest, underscoring the deep historical and cultural ties between the Serbian and Russian peoples.
